Playing Animal Farm

Role play to participate by Anna Weber and Philipp Amelungsen with a Game Show Music by Philip Venables

World premiere

For all who love participatory theater and games: Transform into one of the animals of Animal Farm and play your way to the sounds of the game show band level by level to the utopia of a better world!

The world premiere of an accompanying music - something like this can only be found at Passion :SPIEL. The English shooting star of the composition scene, Philip Venables, has written a flexible game show music for an eleven-piece band and instructed the music theater producers to invent the accompanying game show themselves.

No sooner said than done - the trio of director Anna Weber, set and costume designer Stella Lennert, both of whom celebrated their debut at the DNT with their »Princess of Trapezunt«, and dramaturge Philipp Amelungsen came up with something special: without further ado, George Orwell's modern fable classic »Animal Farm« is transformed into a role-playing game to participate in.

Our game begins where the story of Animal Farm ends: when the pigs have established their tyrannical two-class system and eradicated the memory of the promising animal rebellion. Level by level, the spectators, divided into different animal groups, now play their way free of the original slogans of Animalism and wrest from the pigs their unjustified privileges. Guided by a game master and performers who lead the animal groups, they test themselves in civil disobedience and rebellious resistance to the rousing sounds of Venables' chase and countdown music. The Principle of Hope brings back the former utopia of an equal, free and just world.

»Man is only fully human where he plays«, said the Weimar classicist Friedrich Schiller. We take him at his word and look forward to a playful audience from 10 to 100.
