»From the pure play of sounds«

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy String Quartet in A minor op. 13
Johannes Brahms String Quartet in C minor op. 51/1

The String Quartet in A minor, op. 13, is one of the precocious strokes of genius by the highly gifted Mendelssohn. The music is bursting with joy of playing and fantasy - and perhaps even tells of elves, goblins and magical creatures. Brahms, on the other hand, published his first quartet opus in '51 (conceived eight years earlier) only at the age of 40 - music whose densely woven network of motifs and voices completely captivates the listener.
