Hoffmann's Dreams

An E.T.A. Hoffmann program with Sebastian Kowski and Falk Zenker (guitar)

Anyone immersed in E.T.A. Hoffmann's literary cosmos finds himself in a world in which the demonic can instantly emerge from demure bourgeoisie. In Hoffmann's work, beauty reveals a second face: the ugly grimace. The secure ground on which his characters believe themselves to be standing is repeatedly shaken.

On the 200th anniversary of his death, actor Sebastian Kowski and guitarist Falk Zenker dedicate themselves to Hoffmann's laconic diary notes, letters, text fragments from his world of dreams and intoxication, and excerpts from his diverse oeuvre.
