Passion :SPIEL

Weimar Weekends for Contemporary Music Theatre (10th to 19th March 2022)

An unsuccessful concert ends in a merry exchange of instruments for an invisible orchestra, while in the druid grove Gallic priestesses are hailing the post-patriarchal world in song. Hedonistic penitential service and life-hungry dance of death transform into a baroque music theatre rave. Musical vignettes full of wisdom unfurl an uplifting spring offering. The birds of a mad king accompany his insane vocal acrobatics and the call of the foghorn drives three lighthouse keepers to extremes. The overtones of dancing singers revive God's remains and a karaoke of The Internationale accompanies the regretful commemoration of all rebellions, uprisings, and revolts in world history....

A new addition to the repertoire of the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, one of the highlights of the season and an opportunity for countless discoveries: between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, Passion :SPIEL will present experimental, innovative and forward-looking musical theatre at the e‑werk weimar on two long weekends in March 2022. A wide range of formats linked to the contemporary and designed to inspire an audience will be performed here: new chamber opera, play development, opera rewriting, musical theatre excavation, performance, staged concert, instrumental theatre, dance, and installation. Opulent world theatre meets intimate play, resounding ceremony meets lavish celebration. Playful and passionate. Passion :SPIEL looks forward to your curiosity!
